Question: how to pursuade my parents to let me get a budgie ?

Say you will get lower allowance, do MORE work and you will fully house the parakeet.

If their only reason for not letting you have a budgie is vacation care, can you ask you aunt to write a letter saying that she has agreed to care for the bird while you are on holiday? Then find a friend from school or another activity who has a budgie, and ask him or her whether he would do the same thing as a backup in case your aunt can't do it.
Be ready to care for and play with the bird every day, including changing the paper and sweeping the floor daily and scrubbing the cage weekly for years.

If your parents give you an allowance, offer to pay for your budgie and its food, toys, and other supplies you'll need for it. Tell your parents everything you know about budgies, including information on housing them, signs of illness, foods they eat, how to clean the cage, and more. Be very specific to show them that you do really know everything about caring for budgies. Be prepared to answer any questions on budgies to show them you're knowledgeable. In addition, if there are any places you can do volunteer work with birds, do it. This will show your parents that you're responsible and committed to caring for a pet bird.

Once you get the budgie, make sure to care for it and be a responsible owner. Clean up after your budgie so your parent's don't get stuck doing the work for you.

What I found out to be more helpful, instead of begging while in the store "Please mom/dad can I get a budge please? Please? Please?" is sitting down with your parent(s) and talking with them. When you first sit down with them, say "I'd like to ask you one more time about this budgie I want, please listen to me all the way through before giving your answers, and this will be the last time I ask you, even if your answer is 'no'."

Show them how commited you are and will be to keep the budgie healthy, safe, well fed, etc., and a responsible owner you'd be. Tell them the info you've learned on budgies: how long they live for, their diet, that they can bond with humans, they aren't too loud, etc.

If their only reason to saying "no" is because of going away on holiday, ask your Aunt if it's okay if she could house your budgie for you when you go away on vacation, and maybe another family member or friend if she can't do it. And have them talk to your parents, telling them they'd be happy to care for and look after them while you're away on vacation.

If you have the money to pay for a budgie, maybe offer if they buy the budgie, you'll buy the cage, food, etc. - PROVE that you really want one and will care for it. Or even say you'll pay for everything, including the budgie itself, and their birthday gift could be just permission to let you get one. Do chores, vacuum, keep your room clean - show you'll keep the area clean for your bird friend.

Another thing, if you go to school (like a public or private school, if you're not homeschooled) or any activites like dance, sports, etc., where you're away multiple days for multiple hours, mention you'd like to get two parakeets (budgies), because the other one could get very lonely while you're away, which could cause health problems (boredom, which could lead to plucking their feathers, etc.) or getting it a mirror for it's cage (it thinks the reflection is actually another budgie).

okay your story is my story... last year in march i turned 14 and i hoped for a budgie so much and i never stopped talking about them to my friends! they got bored =( well anyway i just about persuaded my mum to get me a budgie and i researched them for ages... then my mum CHANGED her mind. it sounds ridiculous but i burst into tears. well i don't see why your parents wont allow you a pet budgie because they are less expensive and fairly easier to care for than other pets and very friendly and i think that its a great idea that your aunt agreed to take care of your budgies! my method ended being christmas this year... YES ALMOST A YEAR LATER!!! i pleaded my mum for a budgie and she understood that i know how to take care and how to care for them and id waited over a year and still wanted one so she new it wasnt just a faise i was going through lol. it WORKED , but i did still get a few things =) and because we went on holiday over christmas my xmas bird was delayed and i got 2 lovely new birds TODAY... but i changed my mind a few months back and got lovebirds instead ( peaches and sky ) =S good luck i hope you parents understand you are ready for the responsibilities of a bird and will care for it properly.

my sister had a budgie when she was younger than you are now. the average budgie lives for around five or 6 years. i think my sisters one lived for maybe 4 years? my nan used to have one and it lived for about 3 years. i have never known anyone's live for longer than about 5 years, even though they can live a lot longer truth is they just don't. and well i'm nearly 22 and still live at home with my parents lol.
but yeah they're easy to keep and clean out as you just replace the paper in the tray.
if you have someone to look after it whilst you're on holiday i don't see a problem.
my sister is 14 and she is looking into getting a bearded dragon - which lives for about 10 years. my parents are fine with this it's just the cost theyre worried about. a budgie is easy and cheap compared to this.
but at the end of the day the decision is with your parents and whether they think you are responsible enough. if you keep nagging and pleading this will make them think you're too immature, so be more subtle about it for example get books and stuff on budgie care etc.

ahh kinda know how this feels - had similar probs when i was a youngster regarding pets.
its great that you done your research cos lots dont (even adults), i got a young budgie & he was hand-tamed by the breeder so maybe if you got a tame bird he/she becomes part of the family - maybe ur parents might like that ?
maybe prove to them that u can be responsible - like looking after someone else's pet or volunteer work with animals? it would give u more insight with animals too.
budgies are social creatures and need an awful lot of attention as they can easily get depressed but they are fun to teach tricks with and thats something ur parents can get involved in too.
