I have two female budgies. They love eachother and are bonded together. I want a male budgie, and have it to bond with me. I want to be able to take him out of the room without being concerned about the other budgies. If I put the male in a separate cage in the same room(on top of eachother) Will my male just bond with me? Do you think the male might still talk?
My budgies took at bath in an aluminum pie tin today. At first they bit it just because it was their first time. Should I be worried that they might get poisoned?
I got a baby budgie a few weeks ago - Maggie. I've been reading that in order to receive all her required nutrients, she needs to eat vegetables - however, like most children I know, she won't touch any of the greenery I've put in her bowl - lettuce, broccoli, and even the odd slice of grape. She simply won't have it, and sticks to her seeds.
Anyone have any advice for a fussy (but wonderful!) budgie?
My female budgie has started laying eggs the last few days. She's the only budgie we have, so the eggs can't be fertilised or hatched, but should we provide a nest anyway, just so she's more comfortable? If so, what sort of nest? How do we make one, and what sort of bedding is best/safe?
we have 2 dogs, 2 rabbits and a budgie, all indoor pets.
the family's moving to a new bigger house in the next two weeks, sadly we're just renting it so no pets indoors that might ruin the carpet and stink the whole house, the parents said so.
all of the pets are used to being indoors, specially one of the dogs who is spoilt and has a place in my bed, she also has to sleep outdoors as she has a tendency to pee under the bed at night.
what can i do to get them used to the outdoors, specially the spoilt one?
and what measures can i take to make the move less stressful to them?
WOAH... i didnt know yahoo answers can be so hostile now a days...
I LOVE MY ANIMALS, its just the parents that are hard to convince that animals can and SHOULD live indoors, i have spent a large amount of money in keep them happy and well (super premium foods, monthly dog grooming, vet bills, treats toys etc), and am willing to spend more. But as long as im living with the parents THEIR house, THEIR rules. The parents LOVE my animals too, they just cant stand the smell of animal urine and poo. My dogs have a tendency to mark their territory and its a newly constructed house. Dont want yellow marks on the white walls. I'm pretty sure dad will allow the bird inside, just not the largers animals.
@ms manners: thanks, so far that is the most reasonable and workable and non hostile answer, thank you :)
I live i the southern most and coldest part of australia. The animals will be kept inside at night, they wont be permanently outdoors.
And i will not give them away.
Please help
My bird Mojo has grown his wings lately
I take him for walks so he can get exercize
yesturday at about 6pm I was putting him down when he flew ACROSS OUR DAM and out of site
thats, like REALLY FAR!!!
I dont know where he's gone
we live in the middle of the bush
its been rainy and windy ALL NIGHT and its now 8:30am and still raining
could he be dead?
Are there any victorian/australian sites where I can post an add for a missing cockatiel?
I'm going to call the neighbors and I have posters and flyers ready to go
I was bonding with him!
I was so close to him!!!!
I feel so stupid!
He had a budgie friend... should i put the budgie in a small cage and put him outside to attract Mojo?
I've looked for 3 hours in pouring rain and havent heard a peep!!!!!
I'm so sad
he could be anywhere!!!!!
my grandma found him, cold, wet and hungry, huddling up to a tree for wind shelter :D
Now he's in his cage... quite happy to be home! <3
So I'm going to add a aviary to my house as oppose to all the cages I have now I'm very happy about it!!! Soooooooo I'm looking for nice quality breeding cage fronts made of any safe material for budgies with nothing toxic in it. I am trying to find one and I've looked everywhere. I can't find a nice cage front for my budgies in the USA if I find one it's always in the U.K and I don't really feel like dealing with the shipping fee there!!! But even if I do that there are only two places I find that makes the nice cage fronts. Wades cage fronts and Thomas something but neither of these seem just right for me. Does anyone find any cage fronts for sale or that I can hire someone to make that are both safe for my birds and in the U.S.A but if you can only find them elsewhere I will pay the shipping thanks :)

I'm sorry I didn't ask your opinion on breeding as a pose to adopting I want to breed small scale and keep the babys so I'm not making a difference except that I'm actually also saving budgies from people who don't know how to take care of them as that is where I get the budgies to breed

i have just got two baby budgies one is male but i am unsure about the other one. The one i am unsure about has a pink beak with a small ring of white around the nose
Hi
I recently bought two budgies, a male and a female. The female's fine, but it's the male I'm concerned about. He seems fine in that he hops around, chirps and everything, but he's slowed down quite a lot. He sleeps more than he used to, appears fatter than he used to due to puffing his feathers up and can't fly as manic as he used to. He lands on the floor which was something he never used to do, and he's always eating. He is pooing more frequently too. His feathers are puffed up 24/7. I've checked his nose and it looks normal.
What could it be? Can budgies get worms? I don't like near an avian vet, can I Take him to a normal vet?
Thanks for answering.
P.S. Also this all seemed to happen overnight, if it helps. :|
what should i do his nose has no discharges and its clear his eyes are fine he is active but sometime he sneezes should i worry??
Hi, I just got my budgie yesterday. Today he has been clinging to the wall, has been breathing very fast, hasn't been making noise other than clicking, hasn't been pooping, and has an unclear vent. Is he still adjusting to his new home or is he sick?
ive seen that you can get ones for parrots and im wondering if you can get them for budgies.
i have a little budgie who has no tail or flight feathers (his parents stripped most of his feathers and some have never grown back hes about 6months now i think), other budgies attack him so he lives with me spending most of our time tougher, but the problem is when he gets spooked by something or loses balance he jumps/falls off my sholder. im worried about him getting hurt and would love to take him out places with out the fear of him falling. so a harness would be perfect.
Yes yes, "Life is unfair.... LIVE WITH IT" i know that. but this can be changed and i want your sympathy. Or critcm if you're mean lol.
ok, sorry if its a bit long...
Today, second day of school. my friend that i fancy was being rude, horrible and annoying. plus, i diddnt have a good afternoon, just extra ICT
About ten minutes ago, a friend called. she said that she got a budgie 2 days ago. i had a budgie ages ago, and im still stressed about it's death. and she knew that very well. She's the type who always copies people work, ideas, phrases, and all that stuff. i think she is jealous of me and tries her best to get me down.
So, yeah, she told me she got the budgie and now there's this petty problem. i told her to come om MSN so we could have a chat about it.
i was calm but inside i was STEAMING MMMAAAAAAAAAADDDD!!!! : (
OMG, i was surprised she couldnt hear it in my voice!
so, she hasnt come online and its been half an hour.
She'll always pester me. oh no, im crying now. every time i cry, i remeber that i have no friends and im a loner, having to run after the group of boys who i play football with (luckily)
and now this girl... she's just... im so annoyed with her, i feel like punching every inch of her face.
.
please somepne help, i want a really detailed answer. THANK YOU, please ASAP
what do i do? what shall i do?
help me from becoming a shadow
When I hold my budgie it bites my finger, is it biting as hard as it can or is it just curious, could it make me bleed if it wanted too?
Not all of these need to be in the breed but as many as possible would be excellent
- Low/Med barker ; this one is needed as I'm pregnant and I can't have dogs waking up the baby constantly
- Not a tonne of health problems associated with the breed
- Over 15kg ; my fiance hates small dogs
- Social ; we often have friends over and also have three dogs of our own
- Known for being good with kids
- Not a high prey drive ;we have cockatiels, lovebirds, a budgie, rats, and a hamster.
- Not too high energy ; an hour to two hours a day is fine, but they could only have a quick 5 - 15 min walk in the morning as we both work
- Isn't prone to separation anxiety
- We have a medium size house and garden with 6ft fences
- Preferably an unusual breed
We already have a Collie, Terrier, and Chinese Crested.
Please, no Labradors, Poodles, 'Labradoodles' etc. - I'm not keen on these at all after our family Labradoodle nearly took my face off as a kid.
Also, we won't be rescuing. I've had very bad experiences with children and foster dogs and it's really put me off. I'm a protective person anyway and it wouldn't be fair on the dog if I was nervous around it constantly.
We're looking into getting one when my baby is 2 - 6 years old depending on how we're coping financially and emotionally, but I'd like to look into good breeders way beforehand considering the waiting lists.
I and my fiance love keeping birds and currently have 2 lovebirds, 1 budgie, and 10 cockatiels. We have 6 males and 4 females. One female and one male have already paired. Will we get fights between the males if there isn't enough females? They are in a huge, spacious cage that is definitely big enough, it's pretty much an inside aviary cage, with lots of toys and feeders, and plenty of perches/flying space. They also have the cage door open during the day so they can come in and out as they please, although this part will be changing when I have my little girl in just over a month as I can't have birds all over her stuff..
My budgie was diagnosed with scaly face mites about 6 to 8 weeks ago,had 2 treatments of ivermectin and things were clearing up but now they have returned it looks like. He's by himself,i have no other animals, cleaned the cage, removed perches, etc,so why would he have gotten them again?Did he need more than 2 doses of ivermectin or i didnt clean anything other than the cage? What are reasons why mites return to a bird thats by himself and around no other animals? Thanks!
i recently got a Budgie Semi-Tamed he isn't afraid of my hand but not fully tamed how would i know that my budgie is fully tamed. And when can i get to the stage where they can just fly around everywhere around the house?
1more question don't they poop around the house if their out the cage? or can you train them?
I would have to say that Budgie is the most underrated rock band of all time, they were just as heavy as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Rush were during their heyday but never gotten the recognition they really deserved
In the video game Arkham Asylum while on a gargoyle Batman seems to just walk over and then hang. Using Batman begins and doing some research I figured our how the cape stays in place but... I can't figure out if he would use his bat claw, a budgie cord or what. More importantly how would he have this rigged up, I mean it would make sense that it would be from the utility belt but that be rather unstable. In order to do that inverted take down move it would have to be some method of quick release.
Hey everyone.
I've never owned a bird before, and I've been researching about them for about a month or so. However, I'm having a really hard time narrowing down my choices so I can find the perfect bird. I need one that will be good for a beginner, and be okay for one hour of attention a day minimum. I don't want one that cannot be tamed like a finch or canary, and I don't want a bird that is too common, like a budgie and cockatiel. I hope that didn't sound rude. Am I in a hopeless situation, or is there a bird that is right for me?
This might be a sort of ridiculous question, but bear with me.
I read somewhere that budgies, when they were first brought over to America, were inbred a lot to make sure the population stayed high. Is this true? I'm sort of worried if I buy one my budgie will have a great great great aunt somewhere that was inbred. Even if my budgie isn't inbred itself and doesn't have any blood from their relative that was, it still kind of makes me wary. I haven't considered getting a budgie for a while because of it. Should I not worry? Am I overreacting? And I'll be buying from a trusted breeder if I do get one, not from the pet store. Any help is appreciated greatly.
I have 2 budgies one has a light blue cere which goes translusent at the bottom showing a purple colour and an darker colour behind it I have had it for about 4 months and the cere hasn't changed it is a light blue budgie with a fair bit of White and a yellow head I am
not sure if it is recessive pied because I can't adentify them And I can't upload a picture. My second budge has an opaque mainly White cere with light blue at the bottom a received it from a friend and it is about a year old and when I got it it had slight brown on the sides any help with working out if they are male ir female would be great.
They are eating , playing and chirping. Every once in a while they'll sneeze after the eating or shaking to straighten out their feathers. Is this normal? Also I live in Arizona and it's summer so can it be because it's so dry?
Here are the pictures.

"Winston" by Gina Davis
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I have a confession to make. It relates to my earliest experiences with public speaking – the high school debating team. I was a painfully shy teenager, so when I was chosen to be on the school debating team I was terrified. I needed help.
In desperation, I went to the second-hand shop. Maybe they’d have some books on public speaking, or a book of quotations. Anything.
The owner of the shop was a crusty old bloke who looked about as pre-loved as most of his stock. He leaned on the counter and shook his head and said: “Sorry mate,no books, but if it’s quotes y’r after, then Winston might be able to help ya.”
Who on earth was Winston? I wondered, but before I could say anything, the owner had disappeared out the back of the shop.
When he came back he was carrying a bird cage with a blue budgie in it.
“This, is Winston,”the old guy said. “He came in last week, and I tell you what, you can have him for nothing, because frankly he’s driving me mad. All he does is recite Winston Churchill’s speeches, all day and all night. It’s beginning to drive me crazy. So here, he’s all yours.”
Well, I’ve never been able to resist a bargain, so I took Winston home. I sat him in my bedroom as I tried to do my homework.
It didn’t take me long to see what the guy in the shop had meant. It was very hard to ignore Winston. He kept strutting up and down his perch, with his chest feathers puffed out, giving stirring renditions of Churchill’s war-time speeches.
Finally, after he had attacked his little bell and declared, “We shall never surrender!”I gave in. It was too much for me.
I went over and spoke to the bird. “So, you know a few of Churchill’s speeches do you? I wish you could help me in this debate tomorrow.” To my amazement, that budgie spoke straight back to me. “My dear girl, I not only know those speeches, I wrote them!”
Well, you could have knocked me down with a feather! “You don’t mean to tell me that you are the real Winston Churchill?”
Well, over the next few hours we swapped sad stories. Winston told me about how he came to be a budgie and the mind-numbing boredom and frustration of living in a cage, with just a small bell and a mirror for entertainment. I, in turn, told him of my terror of public speaking and the humiliation that awaited me tomorrow at the school debating competition. Needless to say, in the course of the conversation, we hatched a plan.
It was perfect. We would go into partnership. We slaved through the night and built a mini-communications network.
There was a small receiver and transmitter in Winston’s bell. I wore a secret microphone that transmitted messages to Winston and he could then speak words directly into my ear via a small earpiece.
With this setup, I was Winston’s eyes and ears in the debate room. He was the brains and the tongue of the operation, putting brilliant and insightful words right into my mouth. It was an award-winning combination.
Winston revelled in the opportunity to exercise his intellectual and oratory skills. I, in turn, was transformed from a stage-struck, speechless zombie, into a polished and eloquent speaker.
Our debating team rocketed to stardom. I was appointed team captain and Winston was our official team mascot. Soon we were to compete at the top level – the National Debating Titles.
The great day arrived and I set up Winston’s cage backstage. I actually forgot my usual nerves, confident in the guidance that my blue-feathered, silver-tongued companion would give me.
Our team was brilliant and by the time our final speaker sat down, I knew we were just in the lead. All it needed from me and Winston was a strong finish.
I stood in front of the packed auditorium, ready to dazzle them with Winston’s brilliant conclusion.
Suddenly, something was wrong.
Winston’s chirpy little voice wasn’t coming through my earpiece any more. In its place was a low, repetitive droning noise, a bit like a Harley Davidson
motorcycle.
Or the purring of a cat.
I stood stunned and open-mouthed,totally at a loss for words. I could feel my mouth opening and closing, but no sound came out. I don’t know how long I stood there but I do remember the adjudicator eventually coming over and asking, “What’s the matter, dear? Has the cat got your tongue?”

So yes. My question is, in this text, what language features and literary techniques can you find ? I'm really stressed for time here so this would be of much help. Examples would be great as well if you could.
i really really want to get my female budgie a friend but my mum won't let me :( and my budgie just sits on her perch, eats and cleans her self all day i feel really sorry for her i want to play with her and all that but every time i put my hand near her she pecks SO much and they can really hurt so no one really does anything with her and im too scared to train her to stop pecking.
she looks SO bored all the time i just don't know what to do i think she keeps pecking because shes scared of us so what shall i do??
thank you
I have a pair of budgies with two chicks, around 5 - 6 weeks old. They are both fully fledged and the older one can fly. I'm worried though, because both the chicks are very thin and I haven't seen the older one eating for himself at all. Whenever I check the crops the older is empty and the young one only has only a small amount of food (I've seen him feeding himself seed).
Is there any way I can get them to feed themselves, or something I can give them like a homemade mix??
They seem perfectly fine now, but I'm worried that they are going to die if they don't start gaining weight!!
I've tried putting both babies in with my tame budgie to learn to feed. I gave them a large bowl of seed and my tame budgie and the baby that is eating began devouring it, but the older one still refused to eat. I thought of bringing the babies inside permently and letting my budgie teach them, but I dunno know if they are old enough to leave yet.
So i've been searching craigslist for around a couple months now and think i have found the perfect cage. It provides plenty of space for the parakeet/budgie i'm getting soon. Its really nice, especially for the price. The only issue is the bar spacing, which happens to be 3/4 inch and more than recommended. Its quite frustrating that this near perfect cage has this tiny yet important flaw. So i was wondering if this would matter too much? Also, would getting an english budgie make much of a difference?
My mother in law (MIL) breeds birds. So she is experienced in hand feeding babies so that they make better/more social pets. She has hand fed a many Love Birds, Parrolets, and the occasional Budgie. But her largest bird for hand feeding has only ever been a Solomon Island Eclectus.
She is picking up a 7 week old Blue and Gold Macaw tomorrow and would like to know what to expect in its hand-feeding process.
She has adult Macaw experience as she has a 2 year old Green Winged Macaw named Lola.
What should she expect.
The Macaw chick is an orphan from a friend breeder who doesn't have the time to work with it.
She does have a vet specializing in birds as well as an ER she can get to as well.
Her other birds are good. In the 6 years I have known her she has never lost a handfed baby. She did lose a parrot Robbie, but he was older, and died naturally.
She keeps in touch with all her buyers and receives updates regularly. Her 2 Eclectus babies are 2 now and a picture of health and live happily in their own aviary off the kitchen. The Macaw they have spends her nights in the large upstairs aviary with a cage downstairs, but is out most of the time.
The other birds are kept in a more climate controlled "Clean" set of rooms with special ventilation that they built on for her breeding.
The parrot who passed was "second hand" so his age and history were unknown, but he was older.
Most of what she hand rears she sells across the country. She is a legit business with her own bands, site, vet reference, and decent client base. It IS her job and it is FULL time.
Okay, so my yellow budgie laid eggs. So i moved her to a different cage with her nest box. First she was sitting at the end of the nest for a few hours, Then came out of the nest. Then she did the same thing, but she didn't sit on them. It's been a month since she laid eggs. So a month before, she sat on them for 24/7. ( moved her to different cage + place because bad enviroment. also moved other birds. ) Anyways why isnt she sitting on them?
Not bias :
Cockatiel vs. Budgie
Buying from a : Breeder vs. Animal Kingdom, Petco, petsmart, or one of those places.
wings clipped vs. un-clipped (personally I don't like the idea of clipping them, but I was thinking just to tame it at first)
sassy-ness will no be appreciated
thank you
I saw a bird at the pet store. It has a dark grey head kinda white beard, green wings, red yellow and white chest. I think it starts with a P and it's two words. Small but larger than a budgie
i want to buy one but i need to know what store i can get it from, thnx
Its been about a month since she laid eggs.
I had 2 budgies , 1 female and 1 male I belive. The male ran away and after 1 week, a nother budgie showed up and sat next to my female budgie. I think it came back but however, it was greenish yellow, and now its a white color . Did it's color wearoff ? I know its my bird though, because its familiar with my house , and keeps coming back , and also it sits down and talks to the other budgie ! :|

I had two budgies recently one of them died and now the other one is in stress and keeps plucking its feathers off, i try to stop it but when i leave to go some where it continues to do it again. What should i do?
We have one female budgie, and she's never laid eggs before, but this evening there was one on the bottom of the cage! She isn't in contact with any males, so it will be unfertilised. Is it safe to remove from the cage or will she fret?
My 1 budgie is really skinny and not like my other ones. They are all chubby. He also sleeps differently... He opens his eyes while sleeping while my other budgies close theirs and turn their heads on their back. I just got him... Is he okay and healthy?
so i am planning to get one white budgie i was wondering are these interactive birds? what is the best age to buy them? is it possible to potty train them? is it better to get them at a small pet shop or a local petsmart? are they good with careful kids? (ages 6-11) please help
Sky, my female budgie, has been exhibiting a new behavior that takes place more often each day. She sits either on top of the nest box, or at the bottom of the cage, and continuously flaps her wings for at least 2 seconds, stops, than does the same thing all over again.
I own 2 other budgies. Calypso is the male that she has formed a very strong bond with, and Savannah is my newest female that I introduced to the flock on Aug 21, 2010.
I also leave the cage open pretty much 24/7, just to give them some freedom. I make sure that when I am not in my room, everything is picked up and my bedroom door is shut. She shouldn't be constantly flapping her wings if she needs to stretch. She has free range of my room, and is usually out of the cage all day and sometimes all night.
No she hasen't layed any eggs. I don't think that she is in breeding condition.
We already advertise on Preloved and our local classified website.
We currently have 2 male rats and a budgie for adoption in the New Forest, who we really need to rehome so that we can get more fosters in! Any tips on where to advertise? I only know of one pet store that will let me..
is there a craigslist for the UK?
